What does Aluminum have to do with Autism?

The Study of Aluminum in Autism.

Does human exposure to aluminum have a role in autism spectrum disorders (ASD)? Research at Keele University published in the Journal of Trace Elements in Medicine and Biology gives the strongest indication that aluminum is an etiological agent in ASD. The aluminum content of brain tissue from 5 donors who died diagnosed with ASD was found to be extraordinarily high. Some of the highest values ever measured in human brain tissue.

Aluminum in young brains?

For example, why would the occipital lobe of a 15-year-old boy with autism be 8.74 (11.59) micrograms/g dry weight? A value at least 10 times higher than could be considered acceptable for an adult. Let alone a child? Although the aluminum content of each of the 5 brains is shockingly high. It is the location of the aluminum in the brain tissue that served as the most striking observation.

Most of the aluminum was identified in non-neuronal cells. Including the microglia and astrocytes. Aluminum was also found in lymphocytes in the meninges and in similar inflammatory cells in the vascular system. There was clear evidence that inflammatory cells heavily laden with aluminum enter the brain through the meningeal membranes and the blood-brain barrier.

Because the majority of aluminum in brain tissue in ASD was intracellular and associated with non-neuronal cells is, at least for now, unique to ASD and may begin to explain why young adolescents have so much aluminum in their bodies.

In conclusion.

Perhaps there is something in the genetic makeup of specific individuals that predisposes them to accumulating and retaining aluminum in their brains. As is also suggested for individuals with familial Alzheimer's disease. The new evidence strongly suggests that aluminum in the brain enters the ASD via pro-inflammatory cells that are full of aluminum in the blood. And or the lymph, as has been shown for monocytes at injection sites for vaccines including aluminum adjuvants. Perhaps we now have the putative link between vaccination and ASD. Where the link is the inclusion of an aluminum adjuvant in the vaccine.

The study.
